Latte is a
beverage that consists of
espresso and steamed
milk. It’s just like
cappuccino, except with more milk. Due to a recent ‘explosion’ (not literally) in the popularity of latte, its immediate demographic was harshly critiqued. This resulted in latte being unfortunately associated with specific social behaviors and political ideologies that couldn’t possibly have anything to do with an inanimate mixture of two liquids. An alternative theory suggests that latte’s negative stereotype was caused by the relatively slow adoption of the drink which left large areas of the
United States without access to latte at all. At this point, those without access expressed a strong disapproval of the drink, fueled by their frustration (not a new phenomenon).
Taste
Latte is spectacular. It’s a bit
sweeter than cappuccino. It’s a good alternative for those who find
coffee a bit too strong, and desire smaller concentrations of it in each sip. Its presentation has developed into a portable cup, which at this point seems more appropriate. Ceramic/porcelain is now reserved for cappuccino and espresso.
latte became an official snack on July 12th, 2012.
