Oats are a grain that often work as a sort of ‘basic’ food source in the same way that rice and corn do. Luckily, in the United States, oats are mostly used for oatmeal, or as decoration on top of certain breads. Ingesting them is not a necessity.
When unprepared, oats are just little pieces of paper for all that flavor is concerned. They are bland, chewy, forgettable.
Oats became an official snack on June 25th 2012.
